For those who have not seen or used pods, they are an exact measured quantity of ground coffee already tamped and packed into a porous paper bag.  As they are hermetically sealed they also keep their freshness locked in till used. The pod can be fitted into a group handle with a modified basket or a specifically designed pod machine that clamps the round pod into its own brewhead arrangement.
